Enhancement of Stiffness in GFRP Beams by Glass Reinforcement

چکیده
Glass is a stiff material with brittle structural behaviour. Hence, it usually mostly decorative or simply structurally supported, and hardly ever load-bearing element within structure. Although in recent years there have been several experiments its use civil engineering, to date little data has collected design methodologies disseminated. The present study proposes the innovative concept of considering glass as material, cooperating system thanks adhesive joining technique. In detail, case GFRP beam subjected bending herein considered. evaluation stiffness mentioned compared that same reinforced plates different thicknesses. results show possibility increase global element. These outcomes are validated by FEM analysis, which showed excellent agreement analytical ones. effectiveness system, considerable characteristics, allows both respect requirements related displacements elements their service life.

Performance of Corrosion-Damaged HSC Beams Strengthened with GFRP Laminates
This paper presents the results of an experimental program conducted for evaluating the performance of corrosion damaged HSC beams strengthened with GFRP laminates. Five Beam specimens of size 150x250x3000 mm were caste and tested for the present investigation. One beam specimen was neither corroded nor strengthened to serve as reference. Two beams were corroded to serve as corroded control. A ...
متن کاملComparative Study of Damping in Pristine, Steel, and Shape Memory Alloy Hybrid Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic Composite Beams of Equivalent Stiffness
Several efforts were made over the years to control vibration of structural components made of composite materials. This paper consists of study on effect of using shape memory alloy (SMA) to increase the damping of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) composites. A comparative study between SMA and steel was made as reinforcement material in GFRP composites to enhance damping. Dimensions of e...
متن کاملNumerical Study on the Flexural Behaviour of Concrete Beams Reinforced by GFRP Bars
Enhancement of the response of reinforced concrete (RC) beams using fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement bars has become a popular structural technique over the past two decades due to the well-known advantages of FRP composites including their high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent corrosion resistance. Thisstudy presents n...
متن کاملEffects of Reinforcement Geometry on Strength and Stiffness in Adhesively Bonded Steel-Timber Flexural Beams
A finite element model is developed to analyse, as a function of volume fraction, the effects of reinforcement geometry and arrangement within a timber beam. The model is directly validated against experimental equivalents and found to never be mismatched by more than 8% in respect to yield strength predictions. Yield strength increases linearly as a function of increasing reinforcement volume ...
متن کاملNumerical investigation of GFRP bars contribution on performance of concrete structural elements
In this study, twenty glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforced concrete specimens were modelled using finite element method to predict the effect of GFRP compressive bars on the flexural strength and ductility of GFRP reinforced concrete beams. Also, the contribution of GFRP longitudinal rebars to the load-carrying capacity of reinforced concrete columns is determined. The concrete elas...
